We think that given the current “polycrisis”, the European Commission should analyse and deliver in 3 central areas of action.

The SME Day organised by our member BVMW in Berlin on March 1st 2023, was a crowning success. It put SMEs at the core of the political debate on the European and global stage. Policymakers gathered to hear the opinions of leading representatives of European SMEs and left the event persuaded of the best curse of action, meaning supporting SMEs with adequate policies that ensure trust and thrive towards the future.

We are deeply saddened by the terrible earthquake that destroyed 10 Turkish cities last Feb. 6th, where tens of thousands of people have died or been seriously injured. Many have lost their homes and are now without shelter and essential services in the cold winter temperatures.
In cooperation with our partners in Turkey, the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board DEIK, and in the name of our members, the business association MÜSIAD and the Science and Technology Park of Ankara Middle East Technical University Teknokent, we are supporting donations for the people affected.
The European Parliament discusses this week the REPowerEU Plan as the “green” response to the hardships and global energy market disruption caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It should revise the Commission’s proposal adding temporary financial assistance to SMEs to support them if the situation worsens

At the start of January, our Secretary General Stefan Moritz was invited by the EESC as a speaker to a hearing reviewing the EU’s Strategic Foresight Report hosted at the EESC. The 2022 Strategic Foresight Report by the European Commission provided an analysis of the significant role digital technologies play and the influence of geopolitical, economic, social and regulatory factors in the future of the EU.

The closing event of the DataSkills4SMEs project took place on 24 and 25 November. It was the occasion for participants to learn how the project achieved designing online orientations on digital and data skills for European SMEs. The project implemented four pilot courses for orientation and basic training on relevant topics identified through research and exchanges with market actors: Digital Sales & Marketing, Customer Relationship Management, Cybersecurity and Paperless Office.
