Before his appointment as Executive Chairman of the Federal Management Board of Der Mittelstand.BVMW e.V. in July 2023, the trained banker and lawyer graduated from LMU Munich and was a member of the state parliament, state councillor, internal affairs senator and first mayor in Hamburg. As chairman of the Conference of Interior Ministers in 2010, Ahlhaus earned cross-party respect as a close advisor to the federal government in the field of internal security.
Ahlhaus has been working as an independent lawyer in Berlin since 2004. He has also made himself a name in legal circles with his report on the constitutionality of the IT Security Act. Further stations included the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer and the German-American Chamber of Commerce in New York.
As Secretary General of the Federal Economic Senate, the BVMW’s excellence committee and think tank, Ahlhaus has made a distinguished himself as a knowledgeable supporter of small and medium-sized companies for many years.
Born in Heidelberg he lives in Hamburg with his wife and two daughters.
