Strenghtening the Collaboration: the EU-Africa SME Alliance Moves Forward

European Entrepreneurs CEA-PME and Der Mittelstand/BVMW, together with the Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PACCI), successfully hosted the European-African Shared Value Business Project Launch, a three-day event from the 28th to the 30th of October in Addis Ababa.

Besides the project launch, the gathering of European and African entrepreneurs included important high level meetings which deepened the collaboration within EU-Africa SME Alliance.

Mr. Stefan Moritz, Managing Director of European Entrepreneurs CEA-PME, Ms. Jovana Savic, CEA-PME Research Assistant and Junior Project Manager, and Mr. Ghenna, Executive Director of PACCI, met with Mr. David Luke, Coordinator for Regional Integration and Trade Division at the African Policy Trade Center of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

They had a fruitful exchange about the importance of creating more space for European and African SMEs, Shared Value Business Projects and the expectations of SMEs concerning the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.

At the main conference, held on the 29th of October, the organisers and participants talked about different strategies on how to grow their SMEs and in parallel test the b2 match-making tool.

Mr. Rongai Chizema, Chief Technical Advisor and Head of ICU – UNIDO, briefed the audience about the state of industrialization in Africa, and so called ‘Master plan’ for enhancing the business environment on the African continent.

The three-day series of meetings with high level officials, as well as the main European-African Shared Value Business Project Launch, brought members of EU-African SME Alliance to deepen their working relationship and, at the same time, helped build more bridges between between African and European SMEs.

We are very much looking forward to hosting some of them in March 2020, at the 2nd EU-Africa SME Summit in Rome.
