In a connected world, the economic success and social security of Europe is one factor of great attractiveness for many people. Global migration is steadily increasing, and motivation is as different as the origin and culture of immigrants. With a view to demographic changes, some countries in Europe, including France, Germany and Italy, already need the regulated immigration of skilled workers. The Mediterranean countries are especially affected by the consequences of the refugee crisis.
A successful immigration policy, that strengthens skilled labour immigration and at the same time addresses humanitarian aid challenges, without putting inappropriate incentives, is one of the central tasks of the future. Therefore, we demand that Europe comes closer together in solving the problems linked to refugees and migration and share the responsibilities fairly.
ASYLUM AS COMMON EUROPEAN TASK
The free movement of persons within the Schengen area is a corner-stone of the European community of values and of the internal market. Open borders and free trade are essential also for European SMEs. In order to continue to do so, member countries of the Schengen area should find a compromise for a common asylum policy. To achieve this goal, on one hand, transparent rules must be formulated which do not set false incentives. On the other hand, binding agreements should be undersigned by all Member States to commit them to their individual responsibility.
– Fighting the root causes of migration
The primary political goal must be to help on site, which creates, in addition to more security, also better living and working conditions in the countries of origin. In light of this consideration, a stronger engagement of SMEs in Africa should be supported by appropriate European programmes and funds. European Entrepreneurs CEA-PME stands for effective development cooperation as well for a successful and equal neighbourhood policy. For this we should particularly support those countries that try to implement democratic reforms and sustainable development.
– Reform the Blue Card
Demographic change creates a great need of skilled workers in some European countries. At European level, the Blue Card should be adapted to the current needs of the labour market, allowing more professionals to come to Europe.
– Promote European languages
Language is essential as the most important means of communication to gain full integration into a society. Good language skills are one prerequisite for successful labour market integration. Therefore, the European Union should promote language skills within the EU and promote European languages also outside the EU.
